DOODLE-EE DEEOpening Reception: Thursday April 17th 5-10pm Show: April 17th-May 8th The Helm is pleased to present its first sound and sound-related drawing show, Doodle-ee Dee. Anchored by Garek Druss' large sculpture Sound System, the show explores different relationships that exist between audio and visual stimuli. For Sound System, Druss recorded his habits in the painting studio and reconfigured them into a three hour composition that is amplified through a group of homemade speakers. French artists, Amelie Clavier and Gaelle Maas, interpret sound and music through vibrant, pop-influenced doodles. Marc Manning shows elaborate meditations on words and silence. Seattle-based sound artist Yann Novak will show Corrupt Media, Corrupt Data, a sculpture that explores the place of sound art in the marketplace and the point at which a work is given worth. Accompanying the five artists will be a group of light-hearted sound experiments for viewers/listeners to take part in. The experiments will hopefully lead viewers toward a notion of their own, unique relationship to sound. CHAMBER MUSIC 4: FILTERED LIGHT An Installation by Steve PetersMarch 28–May 11, 2008 As part of UNM’s 36th Annual John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium, Seattle-based artist Steve Peters created this four-channel sound installation entitled Chamber Music 4: Filtered Light. Chamber Music is an ongoing series of site-specific sound works derived from field recordings made in buildings when no people are present. These recordings of "silent" room tone are filtered to extract subtle resonant frequencies from the spectrum of (very quiet) broadband noise. In this case, an hour-long stereo recording was made during off hours in the Study Gallery of the UNM Art Museum. More Info: http://unmartmuseum.unm.edu/index.html 4. THE DEVIL YOU KNOW IS BETTER THEN THE DEVIL YOU DON'T April 24th - 26th, 8:00pm Kamran Sadeghi has been commissioned by Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey to create a six channel sonic environment that will accompany "The Devil You Know Is Better Than The Devil You Don’t" at On The Boards. The original score by Morgan Henderson will be used as source material through which Sadeghi will create an immersive aural foundation for Scofield's "feral ballet" technique and Shuey's twisted-yet-clean visual design. NEW RELEASES STEVE PETERS | Filtered Light (chamber music 4)"Cut as one track, leaving no room for us to further randomize the event, this is an absolute great piece of music. Very microsound of course, but things move around, change color, change shape and keep evolving throughout the course of the piece... Simply gorgeous. de5017 | duration: 60:00 | format: 5" cd-r | edition: 250/250 | 2008 | OUT NOW! 6.
