The release of Iron marks the sixth anniversary of Yann Novak relaunching Dragon’s Eye Recordings, the record label originally created by his father Paul Novak in 1989.  In previous years, this anniversary compilation has been a chance to look forward to the coming year of artists and releases. With Iron, we will be looking backward at the previous 6 years.

For Iron, artists featured on Dragon’s Eye were asked to contribute either a solo piece or a collaboration with another Dragon’s Eye artist.  The results came together as a  massive free download compilation, consisting of 24 artists, on 20 tracks and over 2 1/2 hours of sound.  The compilation came together as a perfect mix of the styles and voices featured on Dragon’s Eye over the last 6 years.

  • To celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Dragon’s Eye Recording label, Yann Novak treats everyone to a free to download compilation looking back over the past six years of artists that have contributed to the label.  The compilation titled IRON includes 20 tracks totaling over two and a half hours of sound by solo artists as well as some very well placed collaborations.  We start off with a track by Luigi Turra titled “Aura,” which abruptly caught my attention with haunting sample of female spoken word and a lone piano tone.  The track effortlessly sets the tone for what is to come.  As usual, Yann Novak has a real talent for his labels artwork to perfectly capture the sound.  It is often hard for me to go into too much detail regarding DER’s releases as they are each their own personal experience.  Sometimes for change to occur, you only need to begin the journey.  Download, press play and I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.
