Highly influenced by ethnographic film, bioacoustics, and noise music, Ian Wellman captures sonic photographs by employing various microphones and techniques in his field recording and listening practices. Ian often pairs these portraits with tape loop compositions to tell a complete emotional story. As a day job of a production sound mixer for film and video, respectively, he is able to bring a cinematic language into his personal work. His debut solo effort, Susan’s Last Breath Became the Chill in the Air and the Fog Over the City’s Night Sky, was released through Dragon’s Eye Recordings in 2018, and is currently working on an album with Aaron Bartell and their collaborative listening study, Zzyzxzyzz. Ian Wellman currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
